ODA hosted the first consultation with small producers to initiate the development of an support programme, which will aim to support these businesses. Representatives of the Ministry of Economy, GIZ Moldova, the National Food Safety Agency, the Alliance of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises participated in the discussions.

According to the Director of ODA, Dumitru Pinian, the development of a new support instrument lies in the needs of small categories of business, which are not eligible for the current programmes in the institution’s portfolio.

The support initiative for small producers will be developed with the support of European partners.

“At the request of the Ministry of Economy and ODA, we agreed to provide assistance in the development of the ODA support programme for small producers. We expect that these constructive consultations and discussions will materialise in the approval by the Government of a programme that will benefit several small producers in the Republic of Moldova.”, said INA Crețu, political advisor and capacity development under the EU4Moldova programme.

Liliana Busuioc, Executive Director of the Alliance of Small and Medium Enterprises welcomed the State’s initiative to come up with new support programmes, which will contribute to the sustainable development of the local business environment.

The STAS Madan expert pointed out that there are a significant number of small producers with ongoing business, but which from a business development point of view, remained in the informal framework and needed help to grow.

The results of an in-depth study on the small-scale producer sector carried out in February 2022 show that top of the constraints are counted: lack of necessary capital, unfair competition and the small market.

The participants in the consultations highlighted the needs and difficulties in the work of small manufacturers, which will be taken into account when drawing up the draft programme. Discussions will still be held in the coming weeks with representatives of the small producer community, including in online format, in order to have a real and objective picture of the expectations of these categories of entrepreneurs.

According to the data, the number of enterprises in the country that reported to the National Statistical Office in 2021 is approximately 5000 entities, of which 3,700 are micro producers.
