From passion to business
They turned passion into a small and beautiful family business. This is a young couple. Ecaterina and Profir Nicov in the city of Orhei who set up a business to offer leather products to consumers: purses, handbags, belts, watch straps and badges made by hand.
Profir was the first to start exploring the leather world. It all started in the year 2019 from a piece of leather, which has been turned into a wallet. Ecaterina wanted to help her husband and applied to the Programme “Women in Business” to expand its business. The funding received enabled him to obtain two sewing machines, bag accessories, wallets and belts. Since then, the company has been born Nicov Leather Craft.
Mr and Mrs Nicov work elbow to elbow and complement each other. Ecaterina comes with design and Profir with labour. In the result, they obtain novel and individual products.
The company delivers the goods throughout the country via the post office, but also travels to the capital when they have several orders. The young entrepreneur claims that any start is more difficult, but wants to build a future for her family in the Republic of Moldova and develop this passion.
In the meantime, it has also applied to other underlying instruments, managed by ODIMMto create a webpage where handmade products will be advertised and marketed.
Ecaterina is grateful of the European Union through the programmes ODIMM “They are unique, welcome programmes that help young people develop businesses. You need to be willing, patient and work hard to achieve results”concludes the young woman.
The Women in Business programme was launched in autumn 2016 with the objective of promoting the economic and social ability of women in rural areas by reducing gender inequality, business growth and development, changing the perception of innovation, increasing access to resources, services and technologies. The programme is financed from the state budget and co-financed by EU funds.
