22 April 2025, Chisinau — 89 companies in the Republic of Moldova received grants totalling lei 28.5 million. Investment in the economy amounts to lei 57 million. The funds will be used for the purchase of performing equipment, the digitalisation of processes and consultancy services. This financial support means more competitive business, better paid jobs and greater opportunities for citizens across the country.

The support comes from the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which provides 18 million lei to 47 companies. The European Union supports 40 companies with lei 9.5 million, while two companies are supported by the World Bank Group, with almost lei 866 thousand. All these grants are provided through several programmes managed by the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA).

At present, 674 employees are employed in these companies. With the help of grants, at least 400 new jobs will be created.

During the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Economic Development and Digitalisation, Doina NISTOR, underlined the importance of investing in innovation and value-oriented local business:

“However different, these businesses all contribute to a common objective: create value-added products and stimulate innovation. Our economy needs that more than ever. If we want to really grow, we need to produce more than raw material – we need to transform, process, innovate. And it is these entrepreneurs who already do so’, said Vice Prime Minister Doina NISTOR.

For its part, Máté Csicsai, tasked with ad interim business of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, highlighted the positive impact of European grants and the EU’s continued commitment to the development of the SME sector.

“Each time I and my team undertake work missions in different regions of the Republic of Moldova, we are working to visit small and medium-sized enterprises that have already benefited from European Union grants. We are pleased to see each time that grants are strategically used by entrepreneurs – either for business greening or for the digitalisation or upgrading of equipment – thus contributing to the creation of new jobs and the expansion of retail markets.

We are also happy to see that many of these companies are family business. The European Union will undoubtedly continue to support SMEs as they are a key driver for strengthening the economy of the Republic of Moldova and an important pillar of the recently approved Growth Plan for Moldova”stated Máté Csicsai.

Furthermore, Vadim Codreanu, Director of the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship, stressed the growing interest of entrepreneurs and the diversity of support programmes dedicated to them.

“The interest of entrepreneurs for grants confirms that, when there is support, business through life. Today, 21 companies sign contracts through the Tourism Programme, 30 – through the Women’s Entrepreneurship Programme, 14 businesses are supported by the Youth Start Programme and 8 – through the Retrofitting Programme. Another 14 companies obtained funding from PARE 1+ 2 and the greening programme, and two companies receive non-repayable funding through the Competitiveness Programme. Each grant programme was designed to meet the real needs of the business environment” said Vadim Codreanu.

We would point out that, since the beginning of the year, 220 companies have received ODA grants totalling lei 97 million. This financial support will generate investments of more than lei 189 million in the Republic of Moldova’s economy.

Of these, 162 are financed from the State budget, 54 benefit from European Union financial support through the “European Union for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises” project, and four companies were financed from World Bank Group sources.
