ODIMM, MEI and OECD met in the 2nd Meeting of the Public-Private Working Group on Internationalisation and Strengthening of Supply Chain Links in the Food Processing Sector of the Republic of Moldova.

The event presented the results of the survey of Moldovan SMEs and store networks and proposed preliminary policy recommendations and actions on the integration of agri-food processing businesses into national and international distribution chains.

The Head of the OECD programme for Eurasia, William Tompson, underlined that Moldova is a country with great development potential and the support provided by the OECD over the last 12 years has helped to improve policies in the SME sector. “The support and recommendations put forward by the OECD will help structure measures and programmes aimed at increasing the presence of small and medium-sized enterprises in national distribution networks and increasing their competitiveness in foreign markets,” wrote William Tompson.

“The OECD findings will help us to update policies so that we get to work with new valuable international partners, access new markets, diversify our products for export, but also remove technical barriers to trade,” said Secretary of State Iuliana Drăgălin.

The moderator of the meeting, Director General ODIMM, Iulia Costin thanked the strategic partners for their involvement and stressed the importance of recommendations in the development of state policies. “The ODSME priority is to develop more support instruments for small and medium-sized enterprises, to help them grow, to deploy new technologies, to be present in internal distribution networks and to be export-oriented. OECD recommendations will be taken into account when designing State Policies for the SME sector,” highlighted Iulia Costin.

Slovak partners also shared good practices to promote producers in their country in large distribution networks and SME support tools.

The results of the study, proposed actions and measures will be finally presented at the 7th meeting of the OECD Eurasia Competitivness Rountable with representatives from the international community and the Eastern Partnership countries.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and ODIMM, within the framework of the project “Support for the implementation and monitoring of the SME Sector Development Strategy” funded by the European Union and the Government of the Slovak Republic, as part of the international project “EU4Business: from policy to action”
