Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODSME) from the Republic of Moldova started the series of free training events dedicated to the development and promotion of Social Entrepreneurship in the Republic of Moldova.

The first Webinar and Workshop focused on: “General notions of social entrepreneurship. Benefits and opportunities”. The event was supported by Dinu Manole, trainer, Head of International Relations, Academy of Public Administration.

Main ideas from the webinar:

Social entrepreneurship involves using entrepreneurial principles to solve social and environmental problems (such as integrating vulnerable and disadvantaged groups into the labour market, preserving biodiversity, preserving the traditions of local communities); social entrepreneurship is therefore driven by entrepreneurs, i.e. individuals with exceptional mindsets, who seize opportunities that would otherwise go unnoticed and have a better vision of the future than others.

What is social entrepreneurship useful for?

Social entrepreneurship helps to improve living conditions and provides opportunities for people from disadvantaged sections of the population to engage in economic and social activities, including at the level of local authorities, contributes to employment and the development of social services in the interest of the community.

What is meant by disadvantaged sections of the population?

Social assistance benefits persons and families who, for economic, physical, psychological or social reasons, are unable to ensure a decent standard of living, namely:

children and young people whose health, development and physical, mental or moral integrity are damaged in the environment in which they live;

families who do not properly fulfil their obligations to care for, maintain and educate children;

families with no or low income;

people without a family, who cannot live alone, who need care and supervision;

children with disabilities up to the age of 18;

families with many children;

single-parent families with children;

elderly people;

persons with disabilities;

The webinar also explained the difference between the concepts of “Social Entrepreneurship” and that of “Social Economy”.
