Over 40 women signed grant contracts with Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODSME) under the national programmes ‘Women in Business’ and ‘Start for Young People’. Investment projects are co-financed by UN Women with financial support from the Government of Japan under the Project “Measures to address the pressing needs of women and girls who are marginalised or in a vulnerable situation aggravated by Coronavirus (COVID-19)”. The aim of the project is to develop women’s economic and social skills, especially in rural areas, in order to be able to react to the economic crisis generated by the current pandemic.

Thus, more than 70 per cent of the investment projects to be developed in rural municipalities, the most active being: Ungheni, Căușeni, Cahul, Orhei and UTA Gagauzia.

The total amount of non-repayable financing provided by ODIMM for these investment projects is RON 6.32 millionAnd that of UN Women co-funding is RON 1 million, RON 19 million.

According to the Director General ODIMM Iulia CostinThe initiative to support disadvantaged women in rural municipalities will break down the barriers they face due to COVID-19.

“In this hard-hitting period, ODIMM aims to support disadvantaged women in rural municipalities to develop business in an economy hit by the pandemic. Thus, based on the partnership with UN Women and the financial backing of Japan, we will support and encourage women to realise their entrepreneurial skills and potential”.

Women entrepreneurs will develop businesses in the fields of:

Growing of vegetables and salads in protected fields; strawberry growing; production of artisanal chocolate; wood processing/furniture manufacturing; landscape design services; the provision of leisure and tourism services, the organisation of tours and excursions by ATVs; apiary apiary; creative and craft industry; information and communication technologies; manufacture of textiles; food industry/manufacturing of bakery products; rearing of chicks; production of candles, soaps and cosmetics; manufacture of meat products, processing and preserving of fish; processing and dehydration of fruit and vegetables; manufacture of jewellery and wooden furniture for children.

This year, ODIMM offered to 463 women grant through the National Programmes “Women in Business” “Start for Young People” “APPARENTLY 1 + 1” and SME Digitalisation Support Tool.
