More and more migrants are investing remittances in the Moldovan economy
63 investment projects will receive financial support through the “PARE 1 + 1” Discharge in Economics Programme for migrant workers or their first degree relatives.
Today, 23 December, the business owners signed grant contracts for a total amount of RON 15.6 million. It is estimated that: following the realisation of the investment projects some 160 new jobs will be created and cumulative investments in the national economy will amount to RON 39.26 million.
Director-General ODIMM, Iulia Costin welcomed the new beneficiaries of the programme, providing them with support throughout implementing business ideas from inception to turning them into successful histories.
‘The SME sector plays an important role in the national economy. The state promotes a series of reforms focused on improving the business environment and creating a favourable climate for their development in the Republic of Moldova. We welcome migrants’ interest in returning home and starting businesses. We encourage them not to stop here, to develop, to inform themselves, to create innovative businesses to match the demands of the market ", said Iulia Costin.
Of the 63 companies approved for non-reimbursable funding, 34 are active in agriculture (growing cereals, vegetables and pumpkins, setting up apple orchards, walnuts, cherries and sour cherries, vines, livestock farming and beekeeping), 15 are active in industry (chemicals and rubber flooring, metal processing, manufacture of building materials and furniture, manufacture of textiles, food products and artisanal beer), 14 are active in the provision of services (leisure and agro-tourism services, land processing and car repair services, passenger and goods transportation, car rental, maintenance and beauty services, maintenance and repair of water and sewerage systems, cleaning services).
The beneficiary companies are located in 23 districts of the Republic, including around 78 % in rural areas.
According to data, the 63 beneficiaries invest remittances from 12 states: Belgium, Germany, the Russian Federation, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the United Kingdom, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania and the USA.
Programme ‘Seems 1 + 1 "has been implemented by ODIMM since 2010 and aims at mobilising Moldovan human and financial resourceswork abroad in the sustainable economic development of the Republic of Moldova. The programme is financed from the state budget and replaced by European Union funds, and will be extended until 2021.
Since the launch of the programme, 2862 people have registered, of whom 2390 have received training in starting and developing a business. At the same time, 1507 companies received non-reimbursable financing totalling RON 306.66 million, which generated investments in the economy of more than RON 925 million.
