RethrustThe areas in which Moldovan small and medium-sized enterprises operate and which generate the highest revenues are trade, catering, accommodation and raw material processing.
These conclusions were drawn in the context of research, carried out by experts from the Organisation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM) in the Republic of Moldova, with reference to statistical sources in the country and in the European Union.
The research shall cover the evolution and situation of small and medium entrepreneurship in the Republic of Moldova in 2010-2015 and shall contain the overview of the SME sector in the Republic of Moldova, its impact on the country’s economy and the specific specificities compared to the similar sector in the European Union.
There are 45 businesses per 1000 inhabitants in the EU and 14 SMEs per 1000 inhabitants in the Republic of Moldova – three times lower than the European average. In European countries, the SME sector is considered to be the main provider of employment, accounting for between 60 % and 87 % of the total number of employees. For the Republic of Moldova, the indicator of employment in the SME sector is lower and constitutes around 55 % of total employees per country, with small companies accounting for the largest share of employment in SMEs – 40 %. At the same time, SMEs in EU countries generate around 57 % of sales revenue, compared to only 30 % in our country.
