ODIMM participated in the regional webinar “Promoting exports and strengthening supply chain links in the food processing sector”. under the OECD Competitiveness Programme for Eurasia, implemented in the Republic of Moldova.

The aim of the event was to present the results of the analysis carried out during 2019 and to propose OECD policy recommendations for the Republic of Moldova and actions on the integration of agri-food processing businesses into national and international distribution chains.

Director-General ODIMM, Yulia Costin reiterated the importance of the HMM sector in ensuring the economic development of the Republic of Moldova and the role of ODIMM in preparing domestic producers for integration into global value chains

“ODSMEs encourage companies to adopt quality standards, innovative and greening solutions, with a focus on the digitalisation of production processes. In conjunction with already existing programmes such as: Apparently 1 + 1, Women in Business, Credit Guarantee Fund, Youth Start, I initiated new support instruments they will facilitate the integration of MSMEs into global value chains and help them overcome existing barriers. At the same time, in order to encourage the integration of Moldovan companies into global value chains, we plan for the next period to implement new actions aimed at internationalising and supporting the development of business cluster initiatives”.

It should be noted that of all the beneficiaries of support programmes managed by ODIMM, more than half are agri-food companies.

As part of the webinar, the OECD presented an equality assessment study on the integration of domestic food producers into global value chains through their connection to large retailers operating in the Republic of Moldova. The authors of the study recommend shaping national policies in three strategic areas: (a) preparing local agri-food processors for integration into global value chains, (b) facilitating links between supply chains, food processors and supermarkets, and (c) improving the access of the HMM to external markets.

To the online meeting representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, state institutions and decision-makers from the six Eastern Partnership countries (Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus), retailers, international experts, as well as representatives from the European Union, the OECD and other international organisations took part.
