Government, European Union and World Bank Group invest in the future of Moldovan entrepreneurship
30 July 2025, Chisinau — 66 companies in the Republic of Moldova benefited from grants totalling lei 24.7 million, which will stimulate investments of almost lei 44 million in the domestic economy. The funds are accessed through several grant programmes, managed by the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, and will be used to purchase modern equipment as well as to streamline production processes.
The support is provided by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, which contributes lei 7.77 million to 26 companies, and the European Union, which supports 20 companies with lei 4.2 million through the “European Union for small and medium-sized enterprises” project.
In addition, 20 companies receive grants worth lei 12.74 million through Programme to increase local producers’ competitiveness and integrate into value chainsfunded by the Government and the World Bank Group, through ODA and World Bank Blueprint for the Competitiveness Improvement Unit.
At present, these companies account for more than 1,267 employees and at least 478 new jobs will be created through grants.
This financial support translates into stronger business, better paid jobs and stronger economic prospects for communities across the country.
At the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Economic Development and Digitalisation, Doina NISTOR, said:
“The government is building an economic model based on added value, technology and innovation. A model where companies develop through smart investments: in performing equipment, in digitalisation, in solutions that increase productivity. And the grants offered today support this vision and are our way to tell entrepreneurs: we are here, we believe in you, we want to succeed. Because when you support a company, in fact create jobs, keep families at home and life for communities. And for us this is the best investment.”
Adam Grodzicki, the Deputy Head of the Cooperation Section within the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova stated: “The prospect of Moldova’s accession to the European Union and integration into the Single Market can be a real transformation factor, bringing lasting benefits to the country’s economy and society. Participation in the EU flagship programmes – such as the Single Market Programme, Digital Europe and Horizon Europe – will not only strengthen Moldova’s integration into the European business and innovation ecosystem, but will also boost competitiveness, encourage innovation and create new job opportunities for Moldovan citizens.”
“The World Bank Group further supported and supports the Government’s effort towards private sector development and the creation of a predictable and easy business environment. The SME Competitiveness project continues its long-standing work with Moldovan authorities on issues of access to finance and the development of our export competitiveness over the last five years.
We support businesses that produce and demonstrate healthy competition, including in foreign markets. Through investments supported by the World Bank Group, the Programme to increase the competitiveness of local producers and integration in value chains makes Moldovan business better, more efficient and more prepared to export. Real economic development starts when our products become relevant beyond the country’s determinations,” said Aureliu Casian, Executive Director, Implementation Unit of the World Bank Competitiveness Improvement Project (UIPAC)
Speaking about the course of local entrepreneurs and their efforts to support them, Nina Potga, the Deputy Director of ODA, underlined the institution’s commitment to support the transformation of courageous ideas into sustainable economic realities:
“Each entrepreneur who works, innovates and invests in its business contributes to a stronger economy. Through the grants we manage, the Government and Development Partners support DestinE. We support people who create jobs, making communities meaningful and turning ambitious ideas into real projects. We believe in entrepreneurs, as in the most honest engine of development, and we will continue to be their trusted partner.”
Since the beginning of the year, 471 companies have benefited from grants awarded through the Entrepreneurship Development Organisation for a total amount of lei 194 million. This support generated planned investments of more than 383 lei million in the national economy.
