Germany provides EUR 33 million to Moldova, including a EUR 20 million grant to support entrepreneurship
23 December 2024, Chisinau – Germany will provide additional financial support of over EUR 33 million in grants to Moldova for the continuation of current projects and the implementation of new initiatives. The announcement was made by the German Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Margret Uebber, during her meeting with the Secretary General of the Government of Artur Mija on 16 December 2024.
The Secretary General of the Government expressed his gratitude for the additional assistance provided. “Germany is one of our strategic partners, supporting the country’s transformation efforts through various projects in areas that directly contribute to improving the lives of our citizens, as well as to our progress on the path towards European integration,” said Artur Mija.
“Improving the living conditions of Moldovan citizens and strengthening local businesses, as the country’s economic pillar, are the main objectives of our development cooperation. With this new financial commitment, we reaffirm our continued support for the Republic of Moldova and its European path,” said Ambassador Margret Uebber.
Germany, through the German Development Bank (KfW), will provide affordable long-term financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Republic of Moldova. These investments will support the modernisation and expansion of manufacturing capacities, thereby contributing to the creation of hundreds of jobs in the private sector. The SME Promotion Facility, the Fund for Entrepreneurship and Growth of Moldova (FACEM), managed by the Organisation for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), will receive a grant of EUR 20 million, in addition to the existing grant of EUR 10.7 million.
It should be recalled that, on 5 March 2024, the Financial Agreement for the implementation of the project ‘SME Development Facility in the Republic of Moldova’ was signed, which provides for a financial contribution from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) through KfW of EUR 10.7 million (non-repayable assistance).
The financial resources will be used to improve access to finance for SMEs, in particular by refinancing exclusively their investment loans through FACEM, managed by ODA.
