9.6.2014, Cahul – Five round tables in development regions were held today in the context of Moldova Business Week, with the participation of members of the Government, central and local public authorities, representatives of business and development partners.

Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazăr, Minister for the Economy, said at the Round Table in Cahul, South Development Region, that regions now need to develop much faster than the main cities in the country to overcome development disparities. This will ensure economic development and decent living conditions for all citizens of the country.

One of the Government’s main concerns at this stage is the capacity to absorb European and development funds, which now needs to be strengthened at the level of local public authorities and the business community.In this regard, the Ministry of Economy launched last year the inter-institutional communication platform with the participation of development institutions at central and local level, including the Organisation for the Development of SMEs (ODIMM), the Organisation for Attracting Investments and Promoting Exports (MIEPO), the Energy Efficiency Fund and Agency, business incubators, etc.

Business WeekAt the roundtables, representatives of ODSMEs, MIEPO and Regional Development Agencies presented support programmes for local public authorities and business, and then answered questions about the programmes for those present. The development priorities of the development regions were discussed. Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazăr stressed that expectations towards the South Development Region are very high and will become an important growth pole in the South. Baltic objects, landscapes and the exit from the Danube provide opportunities that are not yet fully used and their development will create new jobs.

The benefits of the DCFTA with the European Union and support programmes for economic operators in implementing the document were also discussed.

The round tables are held in Moldova Business Week in Cahul, Coșnița (Dubăsari district), Bălți, Hâncești and Vulcănești. As a reminder, on Tuesday, the MBW will continue with the Viennese Economic Forum, culminating in the Investment Conference with the participation of the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.
