Today, 21 September, a new European Union Technical Assistance project for the development of companies from all regions of the Republic of Moldova has been launched. Main objective of the Project SME Policy Support Windowit is to help improve the quality of living conditions for the sustainable and inclusive development of small and medium-sized enterprises in rural areas.

At the online project launch event, Lilia Palii, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure welcomed the European initiative. “We believe that the opportunities of this project are even greater in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, insofar as the rural sector is one of the hardest hit. Support policies for the SME sector will make it possible to limit the impact on them and strengthen recovery and resilience capacity,” said Lilia Pali.

Lilia Pali also added that the implementation of the project’s actions would complicate the government’s efforts in facilitating the development of SMEs in the rural sector, developing business partnerships, as well as enhancing competitiveness and fostering innovation.

Gintautas Baranauskas, Deputy Head of the Operations Section of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, stated that "This project is an additional EU contribution to the formulation and implementation of a robust SME support policy in the Republic of Moldova, with a focus on rural areas, which are most vulnerable to already existing or potential threats. We rely on fruitful collaboration with beneficiaries to ensure the successful implementation of the project”.

At this crucial moment, ODIMM sees the project “SME Policy Support Window” as a springboard towards new solutions to transfrom our economy.” With the support of the European Union, we will provide SMEs with the necessary assistance to rehabilitate in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis and fight economic damage to create new opportunities for growth and prosperity of the Moldovan regions, "said Iulia Costin, Director General of ODIMM.

The Technical Assistance project “Rural SME Policy Support Window” will have a duration of 29 months. It aims to reduce economic and social disparities in rural areas by introducing active employment initiatives. and the development of SMEs in these areas. The indirect beneficiaries of the project will be the rural population of Moldova, who will benefit from better living and working conditions in the country, including new jobs.
