Switzerland contributes €1.85 million for the energy efficiency of small and medium-sized enterprises in Moldova, as part of a project implemented by GIZ Moldova
18 February 2026, Chisinau — At least 24 Moldovan companies will benefit from funding totalling EUR 1.85 million through the Grant Agreement for the project ‘Increasing Energy Resilience of Moldovan SMEs’, signed today as part of the ‘Enterprise and Comune Puternice for Moldova’ project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Government.
The project aims at reducing the vulnerability of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to energy shocks by supporting investments in energy efficiency technologies, renewable energy solutions and modernisation of production processes.
In the margins of the event, ODA Director Vadim Codreanu stressed the importance of investing in companies’ energy efficiency: “We know how much work, courage and responsibility lie behind every business. With this agreement we want to give entrepreneurs the confidence that investments in modernisation and energy efficiency are safe steps towards long-term stability and development.”
Guido Beltrani, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova, also highlighted the impact of development partnerships: “Supporting energy efficiency in business is a key direction of our cooperation, and this initiative provides companies with the resources needed for sustainable development.”
Karin Horhan, Programme Manager GIZ Moldova, reiterated GIZ Moldova’s commitment to supporting the SME sector: “This partnership gives us the opportunity to turn financial resources into concrete, efficiently managed investments geared towards measurable results for the SME sector. By working with the Organisation for Entrepreneurship Development, we ensure the transparent implementation of projects that support the modernisation and energy efficiency of beneficiary companies.”
The total budget of the project is EUR 3 681 800, of which EUR 1 850 000 is the GIZ grant and EUR 1 831 800 is the contribution of entrepreneurs to the realisation of the investment projects. The process of co-financing companies will be carried out through the SME Development Instrument – SME CHAIR, managed by ODA.
Financial support per company can reach up to 50 % of the value of the investment project, helping to make energy consumption more efficient and reduce emissions.
Companies that have received technical support from GIZ for the industrial energy audit can apply for funding under the dedicated call available on the ODA page.
The implementation of the project will take place between December 2025 and September 2026, during which time the beneficiaries will be selected, the investments made will be implemented and monitored.
