EU experts generate new cluster model in the Republic of Moldova
The aim of the focus groups is to identify the development potential of each region and to create a model of effective collaboration between business and decision-makers that directly contributes to increasing local competitiveness.
The mission started with the first cluster organised today in Chisinau with the participation of representatives of Central Public Authorities, educational institutions, sector support organisations and representatives of the private sector. Three other similar events will take place in the coming days in Nisporeni, Cahul and Soroca, representing respectively the Central, South and North region.
According to the organisers, the focus groups will produce a report on the directions of development in the four regions as well as the industries with growth and cluster potential.
Petru Gurgurov, Acting Director-General, reiterated the need to create new tools and services to support business in rural areas by rethinking traditional models of collaboration between actors involved in the economic development process.
In this context, Daniel Coșniță, President of the Romanian Cluster Association, mentioned the importance of creating a system for concentrating resources at regional level dedicated to increasing the competitiveness of the private sector. The event is part of the series of four EU expert missions organised by ODIMM with TAIEX support to develop a methodology tailored to the national context to stimulate cluster initiatives. The first mission took place on 6-8 November 2017 in Chisinau, where ODIMM, together with local partners, benefitted from the assistance of European Commission experts on needs assessment, mapping and generating a cluster model.

Clusters are geographical concentrations of interconnected institutions and companies in a given field. Clusters comprise a cluster of related industries and other competitively important entities.
