Eight Moldovan companies get grants to green their businesses
Administrators of eight Moldovan companies signed financing contracts with the Organisation for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) to benefit from grants awarded by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and co-financed by the European Union under the Greening Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Programme. The winners of the programme implemented by ODA will receive a total grant of RON 2.6 million and will invest around RON 5 million in the country’s economy.
The entrepreneurs accessed non-repayable financial support of up to RON 500 000 to invest in environmental protection measures in their businesses. The measures include preventing and reducing water pollution through the installation of water treatment plants as well as modern machinery that will reduce the consumption of natural resources within the company.
Opening the event, the Acting Director ODA, Gheorghe Iudin, highlighted the latest government initiatives aimed at supporting access to business finance. He also stressed the importance of supporting the business environment in the transition from a consumption-oriented to a green economic model, promoting green economy initiatives in different sectors of the national economy.
‘It is good to see a growing interest from entrepreneurs in adopting environmentally friendly practices. They will certainly help to minimise the risks associated with negative environmental impacts. Investing in ecology will also help protect and preserve natural resources, ensuring environmental sustainability for future generations.“, he mentioned Gheorghe Iudin.
At the same time, company managers were informed about contractual details and how to interact between ODA and beneficiaries to ensure an efficient and productive relationship in the implementation of projects.
The winners of the grants include Jembei Gheorghe, the manager of Agro-Meridian and the owner of an agritourism guesthouse. The businessman accessed almost RON 500 000 through the programme for the purchase of a sewage treatment plant. In the description of the investment project, the entrepreneur mentioned that the financial support will contribute to the development of the guesthouse and ensure the growth of the company in a sustainable way.
‘Our aim is to revolutionise the approach in modern business, integrating the principles of the green economy into agriculture and agro-tourism. With this project, we aim to develop a tourism complex that combines rural tradition with modern facilities and hospitality innovations “, he declared the entrepreneur.
We would point out that, to date, the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the European Union have provided, through the Programme for the Greening of SMEs, non-repayable financial support totalling approximately RON 10 million for the implementation of actions aimed at preventing pollution and managing water resources in various companies.
