Development of Support Infrastructure in Business in the South Region of Moldova with EU support
Representatives of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, central and local public authorities, business support organisations and business representatives participated in the launch event.
Aneil Singh, Head of the Project Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova underlined the importance and successes of a long-standing partnership between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. The European official mentioned cooperation and synergy with other EU-funded initiatives that support the sustainable growth of the local economy in the region.
The “Southern Moldova’s open map for business and investment promotion” is a good example of regional cooperation to support the private sector, which contributes directly to achieving the European goal of economic development and job creation,” said Aneil Singh.
President of Cimișlia Raion, Iovu Bivol reiterated that this initiative constitutes an important step in the economic development of the South region, including Cimișlia raion.
“I am glad that we have managed to engage with our ADR SUD and ODIMM partners, eight other Raionale Councils in the region. The project will create jobs and ensure the development of the South Development Region’s local economy,” mentioned Iovu Bivol.
Petru Gurgurov, acting Director General ODIMM pointed out that the Organisation for Sector Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises continues to support the SME sector in the Republic of Moldova through EU-supported projects and initiatives. Through the Project “Moldavia Open Door for Business and Investment Promotion” we will strengthen business support infrastructure in Moldova’s South Development Region by supporting business incubators and around 300 entrepreneurs", said Petru Gurgurov.
Maria Culeșov, Director of South ADR noted that the focus on the economic development of the region falls within the new regional development paradigm promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, and this project is a start in achieving the set objective.
The development of the South Development Region (RDS) Investment Catalogue, the launch of a portal to promote investment opportunities in RDS, activities to be carried out under the project, will boost the region’s economic development and attract direct investment.
The expected results of the project are: strengthening the managerial capacities of entrepreneurs in the South region, creating the first regional business advisory network, developing investment profiles in 8 races and developing a portal to promote investment opportunities.
The project “South Moldova’s Open Position for the Promotion of Business and Investment” is funded by the European Union under the “Social Focus Initiative” and has been developed in a participatory process at regional level, involving representatives from all eight races and implemented by the Raional Cimișlia Council in partnership with ODIMM and South ADR. The project has an 18-month implementation period, with a total budget of approximately EUR 336 thousand.
