At a Mic Dejun de Business, held at the ODIMM in the framework of the Danube Chance Project 2.0 “Accepting failure to facilitate entrepreneurs’ access to second chance in the Danube Region”, the concrete possibilities of people who have been unable, for a variety of reasons, to develop a thriving business were highlighted.

The event brought together representatives of the central public administration, Business Incubators, financial institutions and other stakeholders to discuss improving tools to support entrepreneurs in difficulty and those who want to restart their business for their own profit, but also to be able to contribute to the country’s economic development.

“Fear of failure is the main reason why many entrepreneurial people do not start a business. The lack of courage is often characterised as a fear of failing in their business ideas. But the truth is that an entrepreneur will never know what success means if he or she does not pass through such moments. A second chance for these entrepreneurs is to learn from mistakes and build a successful business ", is convinced Petru Gurgurov, Acting Director-General of ODIMM.

Iulia Costin, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure supports the initiative to support entrepreneurs who experience business failure. “The Danube Chance 2.0 project provides a new support tool for entrepreneurs and can be the basis for policies to support the SME sector. International experience shows that failure can be a missed moment, but not a fact that can cause you to give up. They only need to help you understand the dangers, and state and support institutions need to help them”.

“Danube Chance 2.0 aims to turn failure into a learning experience and promote the positive image for entrepreneurs who have gone through difficulties. The tools planned under the project, such as the transntional second chance strategy, revitalisation facilities, the Trial and Error academy and the acceleration and mentoring services, will help to facilitate access to second chance for entrepreneurs in the Danube region,” informs those interested, Elena Rusu, manager of the Danube Chance 2.0 project.

The event presented the results of a research project carried out by the National Institute of Economic Research aimed at refining the policy of supporting SMEs in the Republic of Moldova and improving the possibilities for entrepreneurs who went bankrupt and can quickly benefit from the second chance. Elena Aculai, a doctor endowed with economics, came up with some recommendations to prevent the risk of insolvency for businesses.

“Early warning sithemes for ghinion businesses can be: tax authorities, commercial banks and credit history offices. An alternative option to support SMEs is the creation by the State of a special institution, which will work at the Ministry of Justice, providing businesses with automatic notification services on potential problems that may arise. Examples of such centres exist in the Baltic States: The Estonian Centre of Registers and Information Systems, working at the Ministry of Justice, or the Centre of Registers, founded by the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania’, pointed out research associate Professor Elena Aculai.

Small Business Dejun is the second of the three events that will take place during the implementation of the Danube Chance Project 2.0 “Accepting failure to facilitate entrepreneurs’ access to second chance in the Danube Region”, co-funded by the European Union through the Danube Transnational Programme. ODSMEs, together with project partners, are committed to supporting the creation of a favourable environment for entrepreneurs who need another chance through a range of initiatives to improve the legislative environment, training and business restructuring services.
