54 new investment projects created by migrant workers or their relatives will receive financial support through the “PARE 1 + 1” Economic Discharge Programme, managed by the Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM). Today, 20 December, business owners signed grant contracts with ODIMM for a total amount of RON 13.27 million. It is estimated that 124 new jobs will be created and maintained and cumulative investments in the national economy will amount to 32.48 million.

Iulia Costin, State Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure and Chairman of the Monitoring Committee of the PARE 1 + 1 Programme, congratulated the entrepreneurs for returning and deciding to invest at home. “The PARE 1 + 1 programme is already a successful history in the Republic of Moldova. This programme contributes directly to the economic and social development of the country, and the most important effect is to reduce the phenomenon of migration, providing conditions conducive to starting and developing a business, "said Iulia Costin. The programme is also in line with the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova.

Petru Gurgurov, Acting Director-General of the Organisation for the Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (ODIMM), stated that when the 54 investment projects were approved, the budget of the “PARE 1 + 1” programme for 2018 would be used. “ODIMM continues to receive and analyse grant applications under the ‘PARE 1 + 1’ programme, which was extended until 2021”, said Petru Gurgurov.

Of the 54 enterprises approved for grant funding, 59 % are in the expansion/business development phase and 41 % in the start-up phase. At the same time, 31.5 % of businesses are created and run by women and 59.3 % by young people. The areas in which entrepreneurs will invest are: agriculture (growing of cereals, onions, potatoes, vines, walnuts, hazelnuts and plums, planting of firefighters and bumble bees, animal husbandry, ostriches and beekeeping); provision of services (land processing, construction and storage, transport, car laundry, beauty salon, advertising and printing); industry (production of bread and pastry products, wood processing and glasshouse making).
The analysis of the origin of remittances shows that the 54 applicants invest remittances from: Italy, Russian Federation, UK, Germany, Ireland, Romania, USA, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal and Spain. Business ideas proposed by migrants will be implemented in 25 districts of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the results of the implementation of the “PARE 1 + 1” Programme in the period 2010-2018, there were 2600 persons, of whom 2186 were trained in starting and developing a business. During the eight years of implementation, access to non-reimbursable financing was facilitated for 1306 companies, amounting to RON 257.12 million, which will generate investments in the economy of more than RON 804.34 million.

The PARE 1 + 1 programme is implemented by the Organisation with the aim of mobilising the human and financial resources of Moldovan migrant workers in the sustainable economic development of the Republic of Moldova by stimulating the creation and development of small and medium-sized enterprises by migrant workers and beneficiaries of remittances. The programme is financed from the state budget and is offset by European Union funds.
